We discovered Shauna Oberg’s design blog satoridesignforliving.com while researching photos for our recent living room chair rail ideas post. We share a love for Shauna’s design style, which is evident in both her home interior decorating as well as her website design. Bright, light and spacious, Shauna’s designs make great use of white and bright spaces, which really enhances the other colors that you might find in a wood floor or a vivid wallpaper. And while overall there is a contemporary feel to her design, we do notice and love the period features she adds.
So today we would like to share with you one of her recent home projects, the makeover of a rather non-descript and dated fireplace into a sleek and modern fireplace with a cool marble tile surround. Here are the before and after photos.
As you’ll see when you read about the full project details here a lot of effort and attention to detail went into creating this sleek, clean design. Pushing back the upper section of the old fireplace, building a new mantel, adding drywall, adding crown molding, sorting through the marble tiles to get a uniform look and transitioning from the fireplace to the hardwood floor all had to be taken into consideration.
Shauna used a professional carpenter and painter which is a good idea on a project like this when the finish is so important. The end result is perfection!
